About The Ski Camino

In 2024 I walked the Portuguese Camino — 600 miles from Porto to Finisterre, Spain, the edge of the known world. It changed the way I think about travel, about challenge, and about what it means to show up somewhere with nothing but a pack and an open road ahead.

In January 2026, at 62, I did it again. This time on skis.

The Ski Camino was a six-week solo pilgrimage from Kansas City through the Rockies — Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Montana — culminating in the Canadian Rockies at Banff and Lake Louise. 829 miles skied. 409,669 feet of elevation gain. 32 ski days. Hostels, Super 8s, one Fairmont, a lot of peanut butter sandwiches, and more powder than I had any right to expect.

This blog is the story of that journey — the mountains, the detours, the family reunions on skis, the 4am wild hairs, and the moments that only happen when you let go of the itinerary and trust the road.
